Narayama is a concept album inspired by a Japanese novel and the mountain after which it was named. Austrian artist Robert Julian Horky 's main instrument is flute or, more accurately, a whole array of flutes -- European alto, soprano and bass, Indian bamboo and even a high-pitched glass flute. To these he adds intriguing instruments such as musical glasses -- which produce soft bell-like tones and drones -- the hypnotic resonant strings of a polychord, and the mysterious aerophone, along with touches High As Mountains - Robert Julian Horky - Narayama keyboards, mandolin, cymbals and gongs, to paint a portrait of the quiet power and mystical aura of the great mountain Narayama is a subtle but powerful work that takes the listener on a magic carpet ride where flights of fancy become indistinguishable from deep states of meditation.
