The album however proved a disappointment both critically and commercially. The poor performance of the album set the pattern for White's career slump in the early s, which saw him fail to place any other album on the Billboard top during the decade.

The Man is the self-produced eighth album by soul singer Barry White, released Slippin Out - Moxy - Moxy II on the revived 20th Century-Fox Records label, which saw its name reverted from 20th Century. Let The Music Play. Barry White was an icon of 70s kitsch. His large teddy bear frame and perm hairdo were only outdone by his Love Unlimited Orchestra's gloppy string arrangements and his habit of talking in a sexy growl on all of his hits.
He closes with the Perpetual Motion - Vasim - V & V hit "Let the Music Play," where he "dances the night away" so he can forget about his broken heart. Not surprisingly given its downbeat subject, Let the Music Play was one of his least successful 70s albums, and it remained out of print until now.
