He returns on Local Talk with two new cuts, both of them ripe and ready III. March, The BSO Forever - Proteus 7 - Bernstein Tribute hip-swaying vibes.
You've also got "Nea Kameni", a gorgeous house number with old-school synth keys, and it's remixed by none other than Chicago house don Glenn Underground who strips it back, jacks it down and transforms it into a funky and laid-back kinda tune.
Local Talk delivering the goods! LT 20 Mar Loco Dice. How Do I Know?! Pimp Jackson Is Talking Now!!! Denis Sulta. LA Ruffgarden. Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. In this instance, it's mainly music inspired from 90s house and techno. Best of all though is the title track, where Sulta unites the steely rhythms of Mark Broom with the widescreen synths of Carl Craig for a euphoric techno workout. DABJ 04 Sep The title track is naturally a tad freakier, being vaguely reminiscent of Visionquest boss Troxler's vampiric turn on last year's Art Department release before a swift turn into some truly epic synth sweeps that come to characterise the track.
VQ 28 Feb Solomun from Diynamic provides two top-quality remixes which turn the original into a dubby groove laced with trancey riffs, while the extended instrumental version is more techno-centric, glistening with shiny synth solos.
However, it's the acoustic version of "Around" that will win mainstream support. The vocals are transformed into the campest falsetto this side of the Vatican's Eunuch Choir and the string-led, organic groove is nothing short of seductive.
NMB 20 Jun Planetary Assault Systems. The Messenger unmixed tracks. Not in the physical sense, even though he has lived enough for three people, but because two decades after the UK producer started putting out music, his latest album features moments where the listener is forced to admit that it follows a path that few others have dared to venture down. The main reason for Slater's ongoing artistic relevance is down to him opting for a new approach.
Whereas during the golden age of UK techno he was writing his own rules as he went, gifting the world "Booster", "In From The Night" and My Wise Yellow Rug", in his modern-day incarnation he has learnt invaluable insights from the output of those he influenced, absorbing their nuances as a starting point.
However, he then applies his own wonderfully skewed thinking, which explains the panning, whiplash rhythm of "Bell Blocker", a track that sounds both familiar and utterly alien, or "Wriss", which - unusually for Slater's techno productions - features a vocal snippet. Invariably, comparisons will be made to other Ostgut artists, but it's hard to imagine any of them daring to even imagine a track like "Rip The Cut". In true PAS form, the beats sound like they're exploding from the speakers as the bass patterns build and build to the point of distortion, tempered only by reverberating claps.

The stripped back, dub style Bonusz Beat is DJ Gio MC-505 - DJ Gio MC-505 Pres. From The Past To The Future tasty, too, while experienced techno producer Abdulla Rashim turns the track into an epic minute dub techno exploration. Excellent stuff, all told.
BARN 04 Apr Hot on the heels of his druggy, voodoo-inspired "Time Stretch Totem" 12" comes this expansive album for the consistently impressive Hivern Discs stable.
In keeping with both his work and that of the label he's DJ Gio MC-505 - DJ Gio MC-505 Pres. From The Past To The Future on, Irrbloss is hard to place, featuring as it does atmospheric, out-there explorations that variously touch on experimental deep house, IDM, ambient, crystalline techno and throbbing late night wonkiness.
Despite the eclecticism, it all makes perfect sense, and comes cloaked in an air of feverish confusion that's never less than beguiling. We shouldn't have expected anything less. HVN 09 Mar Patrick Topping. Be Sharp Say Nowt. On the title track of his latest release for the label, he fuses a sultry female vocal - similar to Aretha Franklin - over a bass-heavy, walking groove and incessant, hypnotic horns.
It's the type of infectious, upbeat tune that'll be championed by big room DJs. HOTC 01 Dec Cocoon Compilation H. One On One EP. KM 26 Aug No Worries.
CEC 26 Jun Roman Flugel. Monday Brain. On this release for Hypercolor, he manages to stretch that diversity out over the course of six tracks. From the glorious melodies of "Teenage Engineering" through the rolling s of "Church of Dork", the gushing acid tones of "Make it Happen" into the sublime deep techno of "Picnic for Players", DJ Gio MC-505 - DJ Gio MC-505 Pres.
From The Past To The Future release covers more ground than an Argentinean scrum-half. Monday Brain is one of the most well-rounded and stylistically assured records that the veteran German DJ has released to date - and that's really saying something.

PLAC 14 Oct Summer Compilation. Powel's "Hor" is all abstract percussion and soothing melodies, while Lauren Ritter's "Glass Hours" is a sublime deep techno groove, brittle, beautiful and reminiscent of artists like As One. Meanwhile, Bedouin's "Flight of Birds" sees the compilation veer into mystical territories with wonderfully evocative fiddle playing unraveling over a pulsing groove and bongo drums.
On Summer Compilation, All Day I Dream show that down-tempo dance music need not be synonymous with birdsong and dull sax solos. It's something shared in this simmering collection of raw house tracks, with "Do It" starting hard and staying hard, and "Will I" features beautifully crafted vocals and an almost percussive arpeggio lead which sits mellifluously on floating pads and raw piano chords. Remixes come courtesy of Steve Huerta and Vorres, who add their resective dubby and gospel-esque approaches to the source material.
Running Hot EP. Innervisions Germany. From the early electronic-style noises that warble over the bubbly acid pulse on the title track to the deeper than deep house of "Krystal Close" and the Mathew Jonson-sounding micro-trance melodies of "Keeping the Book", Running Hot is nothing if not adventurous and diverse. Innervisions also deserves praise for its choice of remixer; Steve Rachmad is not the most immediate name one would associate with the German label, but he does a fine job DJ Gio MC-505 - DJ Gio MC-505 Pres.
From The Past To The Futureturning "Keeping the Book" into a deep, pulsing techno track, accentuating the original version's beautiful spacey-ness. IV 64 13 May KM 20 Jun
